Surah Yaseen(سورہ يٰسٓ) and Modern Science: Exploring  Miracles and Divine Wisdom

Quran Kareem is the Holy book of Allah SWT, the symbol of divine wisdom and, proof of the existence of Allah. It was revealed on Hazrat Mohammad SAW. It is a guide that teaches us that there is no Lord but Allah. Among its surahs that reveal most of His signs, to the believers through natural phenomena that relate to modern science, is surah Yaseen. It is Allah who created this entire universe and made it purposeful in either way.In surah Yaaseen Allah Tabarak wa Taala says:

“And a sign for them is the dead earth. We have brought it to life and brought forth from it grain, and from it they eat. And We placed therein gardens of palm trees and grapevines and caused to burst forth therefrom some springs -That they may eat of His fruit. And their hands have not produced it, so will they not be grateful? [36: 33–35]

For instance, the volcano brought destruction with its advent and sparred nothing that encountered it. All that a Human could imagine about a volcano, is a horrible thing and a disaster but the fact remains that it brings fertility of lands for the cultivation of crops, upon cooling.

  Etna(Theboiling Lava), was the most devastating and unmatchable lava in the past that spoiled and demolished a huge fertile land and deprived it of cultivation, but later on, it became a blessing for the vineyard and grapes. These are the scientific facts described in ya seen sharif, way back in the past, which were known to the world of science after extremely in-depth research.

It is mentioned in surat Yaseen ayat 37:

“And a sign for them is the night. We remove from it [the light of] day, so they are [left] in darkness.” [36:37]

It is due to the Quran that humans became aware of the existence of day and night at the same time in different parts of the world. We have come to know that the Earth revolves around the sun on its axis. It is day where it faces the sun, and night where it is distant from it. These are the signs for the believers of the existence of Allah which the astrologist knew after it was described by Almighty Allah in the Quran hundreds of years ago.

It is stated in Surah Yaseen Ayat 38:

“And the sun runs [on course] toward its stopping point. That is the determination of the Exalted in Might, the Knowing.” [36:38]

The revolving of planets including Earth is also mentioned in the above verses of Surat Yaseen. This fact was not discovered or determined by the scientists until they got inspired by the Quran. From then onwards, the idea of planets moving on their axis about the fixed point[The sun] was obtained and known to the world.

“And the moon — We have determined for it phases until it returns [appearing] like the old date stalk.” [36: 39]

The above ayats of surah Yasin discuss the phases of the moon and its sighting, upon which we determine and reckon the months. Allah SWT has mentioned the fact in the  Quran when the world was unaware of this subtle fact.

The Observance of Islamic months like Muharram ul Haram, Ramadan Sharif, and Rabi ul Awal, is possible because of sightings of the moon and its phases as a new moon, solar eclipse, and full moon, are discussed in the Quran.

Today man can fly in the sky and sail upon the tide of the ocean while going beyond his limitations because of the advancement of science. The inspiration came from the Quran which states in surah Yasin ayat 42:

“And We created for them from the likes of it that which they ride.” [36:42]

The tragic fate of Titanic is proof of the fact that nothing can survive or succeed without the will of Allah SWT. When Titanic was built, the engineers and Architects were extremely convinced and sure that it was ready for a successful voyage but it was drowned. Its tragic fate is remembered today. This  is  the example of Allah’s greatness and power that He controls the entire universe, as it is stated in Yaseen Shareef:

“And if We should will, We could drown them; then no one responding to a cry would there be for them, nor would they be saved. Except as a mercy from Us and provision for a time.” [36: 43–44]

In Ayat no 77 of surah e Yaseen, Allah says:

[ Do people not see that We have created them from a sperm-drop, then—behold!—they openly challenge ˹Us˺?]. [ Do people not see that We have created them from a sperm-drop, then—behold!—they openly challenge ˹Us˺?]

Surah Yaseen not only discusses the universe, but it also mentions the process of human creation through stages of development of the embryo. In Ayat no 34 of ya-sin sharif it is  stated :

[ And We have placed in it gardens of palm trees and grapevines, and caused springs to gush forth in it,]

The water cycle is the subject of discussion in Yaseen Surah. Here the rain is described as the blessing for giving life to the soil for producing plants, vegetables, and fruits. There is a scientific reflection of the water cycle. when the water evaporates, it makes clouds and falls as rain. Interpretation of this ayat brings a connection between natural processes that enrich the soil for life on earth.

Conclusion

Surah Yasin reveals how the Quran contains wisdom that refers to modern scientific discoveries. It discusses natural phenomena like volcanic eruptions, the water cycle, the occurrence of day and night, soil fertility, the phases of the moon, and the rotation of planets.

These facts were described in the Quran when neither of the scientists knew them. This connection brings to the fore, the divine wisdom in the Quran, and the greatness of Allah. These sublime ayats of Surah Yasin are a source to understand and explore these scientific facts and exalt Allah.
