The 4 Qul surahs of the Quran hold immense importance for their brevity and also, for their great power against the satanic force. These surahs include Surah Kafiroon, Surah Ikhlas, Surah Falaq, and  Surah An Naas. They are highly recommended and strongly advised by our Holy Prophet Mohammad SAW.

Importance of 4 Qul

These surahs are the most fundamental four of the Quran. All of them have separate values and meanings. These chapters begin with the word Qul, therefore they are known as 4 Qul surahs.

They are often recited in combination with Ayat ul Kursi for more blessings and protection. Due to their significance and importance, they are also entitled to the 4 Qul of Islam. They are listed below.

  1. Surah Al-Kafiroon 
  2. Surah Ikhlas 
  3. Surah Al-Falaq 
  4. Surah An-Nas

Surah Kafirun

Surah Al kaafiroon is surah number 109th of the Quran which comes after surah e Kauthar. It contains 6 ayats,27 words, and 98 letters. This surah is as valuable as one-fourth of the complete Quranic text.

The meaning of word’‘Kaafiroon” is ”The disbelievers”.This chapter of the Quran educates the Muslims to follow their own Deen (faith and religion). They should not be bothered by the pagans if they are not willing to embrace Islam and become your enemy.

Surah Kafirun English Translation

 ” قُلْ يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلْكَٰفِرُونَ

Say, “O disbelievers,

لَآ أَعْبُدُ مَا تَعْبُدُونَ

I do not worship what you worship.

وَلَآ أَنتُمْ عَٰبِدُونَ مَآ أَعْبُدُ

Nor are you worshippers of what I worship.

وَلَآ أَنَا۠ عَابِدٌ مَّا عَبَدتُّمْ

Nor will I be a worshipper of what you worship.

وَلَآ أَنتُمْ عَٰبِدُونَ مَآ أَعْبُدُ

Nor will you be worshippers of what I worship.

لَكُمْ دِينُكُمْ وَلِىَ دِينِ

For you is your religion, and for me is my religion.”

Benefits of Surah kafiroon

Imam Abu Dawood narrated that the Holy Prophet (SAW) said :

“recite Surahran. al-Kafirun before going to bed because this Surah cleans from Shirk.”

Following are the benefits awarded to the readers of this surah.

  • Reading this surah will surely protect Shirk(polytheism). Read another surah regarding Monoethism
  • Reciting this surah offers protection from jealousy.
  • Recitation of this surah one time is equal to reading one-fourth of the Quran.
  • This surah when read at night time protects you from bad dreams.
  • Reading this surah before death makes you die as a martyr.

Surah Ikhlas

The meaning of word”Ikhlas” is honesty and faithfulness in worshipping Allah SWT. It also refers to ”Ihsan” which means to be aware of the fact that all our concealed and revealed acts are known to Allah. The purpose of Ihsan is to please Allah without bothering about the rest of the world.

This surah highlights and clarifies that Allah Almighty is one. It talks about tawheed or monotheism(Oneness Of Allah ). This surah includes 4 ayats,15 words, and 47 letters. which are read very frequently in obligatory namaz after surah al Fatiha.

This surah comes as the third last surah of the holy Quran. if recited thrice, this surah is equal to the reading of the complete Quran. This surah should be read regularly to stay away from polyethism. Recite Surah Yasin after Salath e Fajr

Surah Ikhlas English Translation

 ” قُلْ هُوَ ٱللَّهُ أَحَدٌ

Say, “He is Allāh, [who is] One,

ٱللَّهُ ٱلصَّمَدُ 

Allāh, the Self-sufficient

لَمْ يَلِدْ وَلَمْ يُولَدْ

He neither begets nor is born,

وَلَمْ يَكُن لَّهُۥ كُفُوًا أَحَدٌۢ

Nor is there any equivalent to Him.”

Ma’az bin Anas narrates that the Holy Prophet (SAW) said:

 “Whoever recites Surah Ikhlas ten times, Allah Almighty will build a house for his heaven.

  • Reciting this surah three times offers a reward for reading the whole Quran.
  • This chapter is a great source of forgiveness for our sins.
  • This surah is recited for a safe journey.
  • Reading this surah helps to increase your wealth and livelihood.
  • It is also recited for the fulfillment of our desires and needs.
  • It protects us from negative and bad energies.

Surah Al Falaq

The word Al-Falaq means ”The daybreak”. It refers to the fact that Allah can turn night into daylight. It teaches us that Allah has the power to protect us from all the bad things. This surah is known as Al-Mu’awwidhatayn which means The refuges or shelter. This is so because this chapter is about safety from bad happenings and evils.

It is narrated by Hazrat Aisha RA :

[”Whenever Allah’s Messenger (SAW) became sick, he would recite Mu’awwidhat (Surat Al-Falaq and Surat An-Nas) and then blow his breath over his body. When he became seriously ill, I used to recite (these two Suras) and rub his hands over his body, hoping for its blessings”.]

Surah Al Falaq English Translation

  ” قُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ ٱلْفَلَقِ

Say, “I seek refuge in the Lord of daybreak

مِن شَرِّ مَا خَلَقَ

From the evil of that which He created

وَمِن شَرِّ غَاسِقٍ إِذَا وَقَبَ

And from the evil of darkness when it settles

وَمِن شَرِّ ٱلنَّفَّٰثَٰتِ فِى ٱلْعُقَدِ

And from the evil of the blowers in knots,

وَمِن شَرِّ حَاسِدٍ إِذَا حَسَدَ

And from the evil of an envier when he envies.”

Benefits of  Surah Al Falaq

Imam Tirmidhi narrates that the Holy Prophet (SAW) used the Surah al-Falaq and Surah Al-Nas against the black magic and evil eye.

  • This surah helps promote love and affection for fellow human beings.
  • It keeps away the ignorance and enlightens our souls.
  • It also offers a great protection against black magic.
  • Reciting this surah brings a great reward in Jannat.

Surah Nas

The meaning of the word ” Naas” is the Mankind”. This is the last surah of Quran e  Majeed. the number of this surah is 114th. This surah contains 6 ayats,20 words, and 80 letters.

It was revealed in Mecca. It was the time when there was a sorcery attack on the Holy Prophet Mohammad SAW by Labeeb ibn Asam. This surah is read to avoid and fight the offense of jinnat and other bad things that come into one’s mind.

Surah Nas’s English Translation

 ” قُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ ٱلنَّاسِ

Say, “I seek refuge in the Lord of humanity,

مَلِكِ ٱلنَّاسِ

The Sovereign of humanity,

إِلَٰهِ ٱلنَّاسِ

The God of humanity,

مِن شَرِّ ٱلْوَسْوَاسِ ٱلْخَنَّاسِ

From the evil of the retreating whisperer –

ٱلَّذِى يُوَسْوِسُ فِى صُدُورِ ٱلنَّاسِ

Who whispers [evil] into the breasts of humanity –

مِنَ ٱلْجِنَّةِ وَٱلنَّاسِ

From among the jinn and humanity.”

Benefits of Surah Nas

  • This surah increases the power of differentiation between right and wrong.
  • This surah is ready to take shelter and refuge against evil and devil attacks.
  • Reading this chapter provides protection against the offense of Jinn, during nighttime.
  • This surah protects us from being misguided or misled by the devil.

Importance of  4 Qul

These surahs are the most significant and highly rewardable chapters of the Holy Quran. They are recited the most to get the pleasure of Allah SWT as well as stay protected against the evil and devil. These surahs are read to get protection against the fire of hell.

Hadith related to 4 Qul

Hazrat Aisha (RA) narrated that Prophet Muhammad (SAW) went to bed every night, he used to cup his hands together and blow over them after reciting Surah Al-Ikhlas, Surah Al-Falaq, and Surah An-Nas and then rub his hands over whatever parts of his body, starting with his head, face and front of his body. He used to do that three times. [Bukhari]

The hadith relating to 4 Quls made it compulsory for every Muslim to read these surahs every night.
